Born in Poland in 1968, Klaudia Kampa grew up in Germany and has lived in Luxembourg since 1985. She obtained her "diplôme de potier-céramiste" from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Luxembourg in 1988 and studied at the Ecole des Arts-Décoratifs in Strasbourg, France, from 1989 to 1991.
Klaudia's vision expresses itself in vibrant colors and a symbolism which is at the same time both intensely personal and primally universal. Her paintings on canvas are composed of a montage of images which tell a story or express a theme ("Little King Formula One"; "Jimmy Sommerville Snake Dance"). Her mixed media pieces consist of strings of icons held together by boards, rope or small branches ("Family Tree" series) while her sculptures frequently have a barbaric god or goddess impaled on a brutal ceramic spike. She incorporates images which are intensely feminine into all of her work, while often mocking the masculine. Her women are sublime and serene, sea nymphs floating in a gentle sea. Her men, on the other hand, can be lecherous, diseased, or simply stupid ("Men With Bowls for Brains"). Birds, fish and animals also are a recurring feature in her work. |
