I was born in April 1971 in the family of architects. My painting skills started to develop in early childhood. My mother tried to develop this ability of mine and to cultivate good taste in me. But my parents' insistence in such early age discouraged my creativity.
Having failed to enter Minsk College of Art I seemed to give up my attempts to become an artist forever. After military service my wish was to be successful in business, not in art. This was the aim of all my efforts. It would have continued his way, if I hadn't had the feeling of complete failure as a personality, an individual. It was my brother who helped me to return to life, having brought me to Orthodoxy. It was the first step to completely change my whole life. At last I realised the eternal truth that a man has to devote himself to something predetermined from on high, by God. At the age of 28 I started to paint, after a 10-year break. My first creations were easily sold and transported to Germany, which finally convinced me that my choice was right. At that very time I began to create church bell bas-reliefs. It seemed a very complicated process to me, due to my lack of experience. I had no educational base on that subject. My persistence had its results and as soon as in 1999 I was chosen to create four images of saints on the major bell of the Petropavlovsky cathedral in Minsk. In 2001 I received a blessing from Filaret, the metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, the Patriarchal Exarch of Belarus, to sculpture images of saints for church bells. |
