Dave has worked as an international guide for over twenty years. He has been expedition photographer on various river expeditions including the first descent of the Great Bend of the Yang-tze River in China and the first western descent of the Bashkaus River in Siberia. He has been a professional river guide, trekking and horseback guide for twenty-two years, working and photographing in the Grand Canyon, Chile, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, China, Nepal, Russia, Alaska, Mongolia, and the USA. He also covered Afghan refugees during the Afghan-Russian War.
Dave is presently working on a book to document the Mongolian horse cultures. He has spent eleven and a half months of the past five years working in Mongolia. In order to partially finance his photography project he has formed First Contacts, a horse trekking company, with his partner, Matt Wells. They do small expeditions to very remote parts of northern Mongolia. His photographic work has appeared in numerous national and international publications. In 1995 he had an exhibition of photographs at the Mongolian Embassy in Washington, DC. He has been published in National Geographic books, Outside Magazine, Ranger Rick, America West, Eco Traveler, Arizona Highways, Men's Journal, Eco-Traveler, Korean Geo, Austral-Asian Geo, Patagonia catalogue and Equinox, among others. |
