A painting has to become what it wants to be. When I make a painting I allow the colors to drip, swirl and begin to take form, usually from there I decide what direction the painting will go. I am intrigued how the drips, colors and hues interact and develop a relationship with the objects of the painting. The end result becomes an enchanted world. My purpose is to invite everyone into this world.
My realistic paintings reflect my daily response to nature’s beauty, her dynamic forces and the mystery of creation. I often work in series. Although my subjects vary, I gravitate towards the figure, translucent objects, water, clouds, and reflections of all kinds. They all have an exquisite way of reacting to light and mutate or change from moment to moment, creating a sense of urgency in the painting process. My technique and compositional strategies are classical, but not without innovation. |
