In his art Pierre Mertens (Antwerp, B.1953) mainly intervenes on ordinary objects, in situ. He analyses daily reality and subsequently makes subtle interventions, to influence the banality, to weaken and to add a new poetry, coloured by his own personality and interpretation.
Sometimes hard and cynical, sometimes tender and melancholic. He gives the ordinary a new skin. He hides and at the same time accentuates- reality, by isolating it in photography or by changing its context. |
